This tour is a custom tour and are not necessarily in the order below. Each guide has their own itinerary and have a specific place and time to be throughout the tour.  The 3 hour tour makes a stop at the famous John Ford’s Point where many of John Wayne’s western cinematic movies were film, and also the Transformers: Age of Extinction featuring Mark Wahlberg. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the arches.  At “Sun’s Eye Arch” you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sun’s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guide’s stories. You will also travel to the “Big Hogan.” The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots. In the Backcountry is the “Ear of the Wind.” This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs. You will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument. Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel, then get ready for a scenic drive to Monument Valley in a comfortable all-terrain vehicle— allowing for exclusive access to parts of the park that are inaccessible to smaller cars. The area, located on a Navajo Reservation and considered a sacred healing region by Native American tribes, is tough to navigate on your own. But your guide will walk you through the history of the Navajo tribal park and the background of each stunning natural formation. With your choice of a sunrise or sunset tour, you’re bound for incredible, camera-ready views during the sun-kissed time of day known by photographers as the “Golden Hour.” The itineraries are fully customizable, so you’ll have your pick of some incredible spots, including iconic rock formations like John Ford’s Point, which served as film backdrop in many John Wayne Westerns. One of the most photographed formations is the Yei Bi Chei monuments, which resemble a line of tribal dancers. You’ll also get an opportunity to take pictures of the Big Hogan, a sandstone cave chamber, and Ear of the Wind, a mesmerizing, crimson-hued arch. At the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at different angles. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point.

Fantastic tour made even better by our guide Derrick! It was just my daughter and I on the tour which was nice! Derrick grew up in the valley and shared with us what life was like for him in addition to how life in the valley is now. He shared so much history and info, and customs about the Navajo that my daughter and I were enthralled. Super easy to talk to and was extremely accommodating with our picture requests in addition to offering to take the pics! We were glad we booked the 3-hour tour which included the backcountry as we would not have seen any of the beautiful sites we saw just doing the loop drive. He showed us petroglyphs, shared stories about the tribes and the medicine men, as well as the names of the rock formations with their stories. In addition, he sang a native song and treated us to a song playing his flute. I can't say enough about Derrick and the tour was so much more than we expected. Highly recommend Dinah Bekeyah Tours and Derrick!

We took a sunset tour and Harry was our tour guide. He was an excellent tour guide and as this was my first trip with my Nikon D750, not only did he give us a great tour of Monument Valley, he also gave me some great tips on how to get the best out of my camera. I’d ask for him specifically if I ever return for another tour. While you could off road around Monument valley on your own, there are some areas specifically restricted just to local tour guides so I recommend taking the tour at least once.

We came out to Monument Valley to enjoy the incredible sights on the Navajo Tribal Park. After reading the reviews we decided to do the sunrise 3 hour tour that included the back country section that the shorter 1.5 hour tour and all personal excursions are not able to get into to. It’s a bucket list trip for me, so this looked like the all in experience we were looking for. We woke up this morning, the morning of our 3 hour photo tour, and there was an all out BLIZZARD going on. (It still is as I write this review). Despite so much blowing snow that you cannot even see the parking lot, an incredibly polite young man name Steven showed up on time with a big grin and said “so, what do you think?” He sat down and we spoke a while about the trip and what we wanted to see and ultimately decided that today was probably the worst option for our tour. Since there will be no sun, not even the horizon this morning we agreed that there wouldn’t not be a lot to photograph. With possibly another 10-20” of snow coming we asked him all kinds of questions about the best way for us to make it to our next destination. He took some time to help us lay out our options. We will be heading out here in a few minutes in the old Toyota Camry rental front wheel drive sleigh to see how far we get before the roads close on the way to Albuquerque. Steven was incredibly polite and I will be booking this trip again in the future and I will be asking for him as our guide.
