First, this is top notch. The guide Michelle is lovely, gracious and knowledgable. You get to visit out of the way stops with good food and lots of history. The six restaurants, all featured in the Tasting Kauai book, give you a taste of many island favorites it's a four hour your and when it's done you are stuffed and happy can't recommend highly enough. The icing on the cake for us was a tikiini and getting our photo taken with Michelle's Rundgren from the Tubes.

Somehow I've been following the Tasting Kauai blog for a couple of years and so jumped to join the north shore tour. We three loved it! From the amazing smoothie and farm talk at Fruehling farms, we started out right! We learned about local farming, had pupus and drinks at Tiki Iniki in Princeville and then a fabulous time w Chloe and her mom at Trucking Delicious. There we had cupcakes under the tent and figured out this was real, connecting w real people who loved local food and community building. We had such a good time at Tiki Iniki we were back for thanksgiving dinner-there is a lot of good food under all the tiki stuff! The Princeville gas station was a revelation for its pizza as well it's great steaks for sale in the cooler. That mini market is redefining market. We ended the tour at the Waipahu foundation farmers market, visiting sellers, plugging in faster than if we were there alone. Loved it and met great locals. Totally recommend it for great food and meeting quirky personalities doing what they love.

I live & work in Honolulu, and exploring the outer islands has been part of my work for the last 9 years. Each of the outer islands - Kauai, Maui, Big Island, Lanai, Molokai - has a different vibe and should be experienced. If you've only ever been to Honolulu, then you really haven't visited Hawaii! This past week I headed over to Kauai for 2 days of work & play, and I got to see the South Shore of Kauai in a new way, through the Tasting Kauai food tour! Our guide, Michelle, was informative & helpful & had great insider tips for what to eat & where. The tour included tastes of freshly hand-rolled sushi at Makai Sushi, fish tacos from a local-favorite "dive" Da Crack, samples of freshly made gelato at Papalani Gelato, and market day at The Shops at Kukui'ula, including Kobe Beef sliders from Living Foods Market, freshly made croissants from Haole Girl Island Sweets, local honey tasting, jam tasting from Monkeypod Jam and the finale at Merriman's Kauai, where we sampled freshly squeezed local orange juice and pork belly with greens and pumpkin. At every stop, the chefs talked with the group about their passion for their craft and specialty. The tour was informative and fun and worth every penny & minute of the tour.
