Black Cat Historical Day Tour

Overview
Our daytime historic tour is a story of Pirates and Puritans, Witchcraft and War.  We travel around the city of Salem and share the tales of its amazing history.  From its humble beginnings as a city founded on the idea of peace for all, to the site of the largest incident of witchcraft hysteria in the modern world, learn how it became one of the biggest shipping ports in America, played host to some of the most famous authors of all time, and learn some of the biggest secrets this city has to offer!

Our daytime walking tour lasts about an hour and forty five minutes, and covers a mile's worth of the downtown area. It is an easy walk, but we suggest comfortable shoes and clothing to match the season. Our tours are unscripted, and can be customized to every group's particular areas of interest!

This was our first trip to Salem, though most defintly not our last. One of the highlights was the Salem Black Cat tour. Our guide, Johnbarry, seamlessly wove the threads of Salem's history and ghosts into a rich tapestry of story telling that captured the imagination and dispelled many of the mistruths from that era. Entertaining and engaging this tour wanders the streets of Salem after dark which, this town was made for doing. Suspend reason for an evening, let your imagination run amuck, and you just might catch a glimpse of a shadow at a window as you walk by one of the many historical homes on the tour. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as is weather appropriate attire.

There's no lack of tours available in Salem, but Black Cat is the best choice for anybody interested in both the history and the supernatural, and adults in general. Our guide Daniel, was very friendly and knowledgeable, even willing to answer tourist questions unrelated to the tour material. He managed to present the stories in a way that established a creepy atmosphere but didn't come across as kitschy or over-exaggerated. The tour is absolutely family-friendly, but we liked how none of the material seemed childish or over-the-top. It appears Black Cat Tours carved its niche by letting the facts come before the theater, and that made it great. It's definitely one of our favorite ghost tours we've ever taken. As a side note: we also took the Spellbound Tour and were pleased to see there was almost no overlapping material. If time permits, we recommend doing both.

We really enjoyed the tour, not scary but informational! We had Daniel as our guide and he did a great job!
