Great storytelling history lesson with Tyler. He was a great guide as well as the driver. Seeing the residential area and learning the history of the area as well as the houses was a wonderful Experience. I would highly recommend

The educational experience you get from a carriage ride in Charleston is far better than reading about Charleston's history in one of the many books available. There is nothing like seeing and hearing about what happened on the site, or what purpose architecture played in the growth and survival of the city. It all comes to life when the knowledgeable and experienced carriage guides start telling their stories. This was the 18th Palmetto Carriage Works tour of Charleston that I've taken. Each one was different; each one was fun and memorable. My visiting guests and family are always impressed with the history of Charleston, the manner in which the tour is conducted, and the humane care and safety of the horses and mules that work the city streets. For me, the biggest bang for your buck is best received from the folks and Palmetto Carriage Works in the Big Red Barn. They are friendly, helpful and know their business extremely well.

Several people told us to take a "buggy tour" when we were in Chraleston, which I thought was just the standard 4-seater horse-drawn carriage they have in every town. This is something else, it's a whole industry here and one of the only ways to see the town. We booked on a whim a couple hours before arriving in town, and it was a great intro to the city. I highly recommend booking one of these, though it's important to know that there are so many carriages that the city randomizes the route each carriage can take. It's impossible to know in advance which trip you will get as this is assigned to every carriage after they leave the stables. They're all good, but at this price it's hard to book multiple if there is something else you want to see.
