Frankly Charleston Morning Walking Tour

Overview
TOUR REFLECT

The truthful acknowledgment of African American contributions to these United States of America since its founding, which is still in limbo or in denial compared to the racism that is wide spread throughout this country for the sake of its southern heritage, in step with keeping it a tradition? Why can’t Americans get with the time?

We break down the other Charleston and the stereo typical mind set of the institution of slavery in this country or shall I say in the Low Country Charles Towne. Were we GULLAH? Or were we AFRICANS? What was the reward for not running? How wealthy were the free People of Color?

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was about places & history not on other tours emphasizing the other Charleston & their contributions to the city & its culture. Very slow paced walking. Mostly just absorbing the rich historical facts being given.

My adult son and I went on Franklin’s tour. He is a really good guide. He said it was a “participatory” tour so I asked questions and asked him to further explain things. He helped us look for history in plain sight. And not believe every guide but dig deeper. Definitely a “worth it” tour for the African American experience from the beginning.

This was our best tour in Charleston. It was filled with specific, researched stories about the black history of the area. Our group was a mix of black and white people - I'm white, and I wasn't sure I wasn't sure if the tour would be for me, but it was. I learned so much and came home telling my friends and family about it. Franklin knows his history and is kind to share it. The tour ran a little over 2 hours and because he will discuss whatever his guests want to learn I'm sure no two tours are the same. Highly recommend if you are interested in a real history walk and not a bunch of sugar coated BS.
