Our family of four did the 3/4 day rafting trip on the Animas river in late July. This was more mild than wild since it was the was the end of the season and the water was quite low. In those conditions, the challenge becomes more avoiding getting stuck on the rocks rather than staying in the boat through big white water. Our guide MD was very skilled at maneuvering the boat in these difficult waters, which seems to be much harder than when the flow is higher. We couldn't have asked for a better guide; aside from keeping us off the rocks, she was also a lot of fun, and a wealth of local knowledge She went out of her way to make sure we got the best experience possible; for example, we "surfed" the big wave in the whitewater park multiple times, which delighted our daughter at the front of the boat as she got soaked. Thanks MD!!!
