Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

Hint: book the morning tour (9am) if its the summer months! Heat is much more manageable and there are less tours and people to get in your way :) My Wife and I booked the walking tour through our hotel. The hotel made a small mistake that led to us not being at the right address on time to begin the tour, but Oyster Point was very quick to offer us to reschedule for another time. They made the rescheduling very easy and were very understanding. Bill was our tour guide and we appreciated not only his knowledge, but his passion for the tour also. He made sure to explain why the things we were about to see are important, and how they all tie together. It wasn't just "here's a building that was built in such and such date and there was such and such famous person here". He tied everything from the politics, economics, slavery, and religion together. Bill clearly knew his stuff and also made it an interactive experience as he asked questions and prompted good discussion. I especially appreciated his focus on how slavery, while having an incredible impact on the history of Charleston, is not stressed nearly enough through the museums and tours. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

Palmer did an excellent job of giving the history of Charleston. Her knowledge and passion for the city ensured that we never grew bored during the tour. The tour also enhanced the rest of our trip due to Palmerā€™s recommendations on other attractions and restaurants.

Bill was an absolutely amazing tour guide and I would recommend anyone to take this tour! Not being a Southern (or US) native, I was afraid that I'd lack the foundational knowledge needed to understand a lot of the tour. However, Bill provided a comprehensive introduction to the creation of SC, and throughout the two hours, took us to very interesting focal points within the city that really shaped Charleston's history. Loved that he was very frank about what made Charleston what it is today (even the not so great smudges of history), and his energy was great. Highly highly recommend!
