Overview

We carry a maximum of 6 passengers so we can offer a more intimate manta ray snorkel experience than the larger "cattle boats" in Kona.

In addition to delivering a more private experience, our small group size allows for a better manta ray show. Your swim guide will tow your party to the most active areas of the snorkel site, as you hold onto a light board and enjoy the show. Larger groups on bigger boats are often required to stay next to the boat, and can't chase the manta ray action as we do. By locating the most active areas of the snorkel site, you'll have a higher chance of seeing more manta rays.

If you book all 6 seats on any trip, you will have your own private charter.

We expected this trip to be fun as we’ve done a manta ray excursion previously, but this exceeded expectations. The crew was great and the rays really showed up! We had 5 of them barrel rolling so close they would actually touch us at times. Super cool.

My husband and I booked a 5:30pm trip with Jeff and Jake. They were both fun and knowledgeable guides. We wondered if it would not be dark enough, but it ended up working out great! We rode the boat to the site while the sun set, and then by the time we were geared up and in the water it was full darkness. On the boat ride bike we got a great dark sky view of the stars. There were other groups around from other companies, but it didn't feel crowded. I lost count of how many manta rays swam up to the underside of our float and flipped upside down right under our faces! To do this tour (or any other manta ray snorkel) it helps to be comfortable breathing through a snorkel so you can keep your face in the water and not miss anything. It would also be helpful to practice floating flat on your stomach- some in our group had trouble keeping their slippers up and out of the way of the manta rays even with the assistance of a pool noodle. (this didn't stop the rays from coming near us, Jake just had to remind them several times to get their flippers up to the surface)

This was a once in a lifetime experience. I cannot recommend highly enough going to swim with the rays here in Kona. They come up close, even brushing past you, and is so much more rewarding than seeing them in an aquarium. Doing it at night, the drive to the snorkel site was also amazing, getting to see such a star-filled night sky. There are many companies that offer this tour, and we really appreciated Coral Reef’s approach. Lawrence and Eric were the staff with us. They kept the tour small but still had everything we needed - snorkels, drinks etc. They were patient with the beginners in the group and knowledgeable about the manta rays. I cannot recommend this tour, and coral reef in particular highly enough.
