Overview

Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

What To Expect

Liquid Alaska Tours

Liquid Alaska Tours pick up guests at the cruise ship docks and their experience starts right there. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

Mendenhall Glacier

Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.

Tongass National Forest

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

The entire experience was phenomenal. Very well-organized and informative. From the counter-stand on helping is book a seat on the canoe to meeting up with our guide/driver, it was a very easy process and they were all helpful on getting us where we need to be and getting us geared up for the paddling. Mike, our canoe guide and driver, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in ensuring our safety came first and provided basic lessons on how to paddle the canoe. It all goes down to teamwork and Mike was able to bring us all together. This experience requires some great exercise and each paddler is provided with water and snacks. Also as a bonus, Mike had a great sense of humor and was kept us entertained throughout our entire adventure! We got to get pretty close to the Mendenhall Glacier and the Waterfall where the views were spectacular. Mike knew a lot about the surroundings; the mountain peaks as well as the wildlife which provided great additional context to the overall scenery. When the group was all done, he provided some fantastic Coffee/Hot Chocolate (the Mendenhall Mocha) and gave the group a ride back down to the shuttle area to get to our Cruise ship.

The canoe trip was epic. Kevin was an absolute pro. Call him Leif Erikson with the way he guided the canoe. Super professional, and had such a keen eye. 10 out of 10.
