Overview

Walk, talk and taste your way through historic Charleston South Carolina. This small-group 2.5-hour tour will immerse you in the history and culture of the Lowcountry and allow you to experience a remarkable culinary scene in downtown Charleston. Stops along the way will include many of the city’s leading restaurants through out the city. Typical tastings include: stone ground grits, Southern pralines, sweet tea, collard greens, Lowcountry barbeque, and fried green tomatoes.

Charleston City Market

Built in the early 1800's, this four block historical landmark was originally the city's grocery store. Today, the City Market is home to a variety of local vendors that sell their art, crafts, and local wares.

Darien was superb tour guide. She gave us history of the food and some anecdotes. The walk wasn’t too long. The food was delicious and we got served in individual portions. The restaurant they picked were good. It’s not hole in the wall. I didn’t like the dessert though - praline (I’m not a fan). Would recommend this tour and Darien. She has venmo which was convenient bec i forgot to bring cash for gratuity.

This was a waste of money! The tour was not as advertised! We were expecting traditional low country tastings. What we got was tacos, terrible barbecue, and a half dollar sized praline from River Street Sweets. I could’ve gotten all of these at home at the mall. Very false advertising!

The guide was great with her explaining the history of food in Charleston and how the cultures have evolved over time but I wish we went to historic restaurants or ate food that was more aligned with the history instead of having things like chicken tacos and guac at modern restaurants that were far more of a stretch to tie into the purpose of the tour. It seemed like that was the consensus of the group as well.
