What To Expect

Atlantis Submarines Waikiki

The Atlantis submarine Hawaii adventure begins with a short (approximately 10 minutes) shuttle ride out to the submarine boarding site. Descending below, your time underwater on the Oahu submarine tour is around 45 minutes. Returning to the world above, your shuttle is waiting to return you to land. The Oahu submarine tour dive site is home to many Hawaiian fish, coral and turtles. On this truly eye-opening experience, you'll visit sunken ships, airplanes and other artificial reefs. The submarine has a spacious air-conditioned interior, large view ports and comfortable seating. If you haven't taken a trip to the bottom of the ocean before, the Atlantis Submarine Oahu Adventure is a "must do" for the whole family during your visit to Hawaii. Check out the world's largest hi-tech 64-passenger submarine offers an enhanced amount of personal space and large viewports only available to Premium Tour passengers.

This was an amazing adventure under the water in an actual submarine we decided to take when our snorkeling plans fell through due to bacteria warnings at the beach we planned to travel to. If you are a a veteran or active duty make sure to ask for the discount! The submarine was roomy and pleasant and the crew kept us very safe as well as entertained during dive pointing out the sights and history of the area. Two thumbs up and highly recommended!

We took the hi-tech passenger Atlantis Submarine from the ship to Waikiki's Hilton Hawaiian Village passing Waikiki and Diamond Head. We transferred to the submarine which descended 100 feet underwater to view the home of a wide variety of Hawaiian fish, coral and turtles. We also visited sunken shipwrecks, an airplane and some artificial reefs. During the dive the guide on the submarine identified all the creatures we saw and all of the man-made reefs and wrecks. He explained that the fish population increased 300% around the sunken ships and airplane. This was a fascinating tour because we cannot scuba dive, and getting access to the wrecks and the denizens that live among them was a real treat. To experience color changes I wore a red shirt that looked dark purple at 100 feet below the surface of the water because of the ultra-violet light.

Let’s tackle cost first. This is a pricey excursion. The cost for 6 to ride the sub may not be much different than the cost of a single plane fare from the states to Hawaii and back. So you need to judge how you will manage your financial resources. That said, the experience, if you have never been on a sub before, is amazing. My pics don’t do justice to the ocean reality that you see. The sub can get below 150 feet deep which is cool—basically on the bottom of the ocean floor they explore. We saw turtles, many fish species, a man made reef, etc. The boat ride out to the sub and back is fast and easy and picture worthy in and of itself. The sub is a bit of a climb to get into and out of, nothing worrisome. The seats in the sub were very comfortable. The staff was really nice, particularly to our 9 and 11 year old kids. Go for it!
