This is an activity that my entire extended family enjoyed...all 16 of us! We actually did two activities on two separate days. The first afternoon we did the Morris Island Lighthouse and eco Tour on two chartered boats and the next morning we did the 2 hour Marsh Kayak tour. Both tours were from the Foley Beach location. The beauty and the functionality of the marsh ecosystem is amazing! Captain Joe was our captain for our Morris Island tour. He was very knowledgable about the marsh ecosystem and the trip was educational for the kids as well as the adults. Some of us have lived in Charleston for 30 years and still learned new things! We saw lots of wildlife including pelicans, cranes, shark, several dolphins and even a large sea turtle! On the island overlooking the lighthouse the kids found fiddler crabs, blue crabs and LOTS of shells. The next morning about half of us went back to do the Kayak Marsh tour. We had 4 kids with us ranging in ages from 5 to 11 and four adults. We went put one adult and one kid in each of the two man kayaks. We saw dolphin and lots of birds and we gave ourselves pluff mud facials! Again, our tour guide was very knowledgable of the marsh and it's inhabitants. Much of the information was the same as the day before but I figure it served to reinforce the info for the kids. Remember to bring sunscreen and water for everyone! Overall, this was a great family activity. Everyone really enjoyed the outings. I would recommend this for everyone!

If you're in the Charleston area, have a nice weather day and are looking for something neat to do, book a kayak tour with Charleston Outdoor Adventures. Located about twenty minutes south of the beautiful and historic city of Charleston, they offer various guided tours in and around the marsh and waterways near Folly's Island. Although we only got to know our guide, Luke, it seemed all the young people working there had a genuinely personal interest in the eco, cultural and sporting value of the surrounding waterways. Our three hour tour began at 10AM with Luke giving us a brief yet comprehensive lesson in kayak handling and then leading the tour and sharing his knowledge and appreciation of the local environment while pointing out land, water and wildlife examples including some dolphins and great white herons. It was a fun morning and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Well worth the cost

My wife and I recently visited the Charleston, SC area and wanted to kayak with the notorious marsh dolphins. The Carolina Outdoor Adventure was a perfect choice for this and is conveniently located just a few minutes outside downtown Charleston. Beyond the awesome Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, our guide, Derek, who actually has a degree in marine biology and a great personality in bonus, made our 3-hour marsh eco-tour adventurous and informative. We learned a great deal about the complex marsh ecosystem, including the tidal flows, soil composition, surrounding vegetation, and abundant wildlife. Derek was a trove of great information not only about the marsh but also the local Charleston area. His dinner recommendation of Virginia's on King was excellent. We highly recommend this tour.
