CLEAR KAYAKS! We'll get you checked in right when you arrive to allow for the most possible time on the water! Once you're all checked in, we'll give some basic paddle instructions and information about the tour ahead. The paddle will last about an hour and a half depending on the speed of our group and any wildlife we may see along the way. Bioluminescence is the emission of light by a living organism. When the organisms move in the water they create a beautiful glowing effect. This means that you can see fish underwater by the glow that they give off as they swim, your paddle will glow as you maneuver the waterways, and the natural flow of water will illuminate these organisms. The great thing about paddling in our clear kayaks is that you can also see the glowing directly below you! Paddling in a clear kayak will enhance your bioluminescence viewing experience by a long shot!

Clear Kayaks are great for this activity-our guides Liz and Scott were very fun and gave out a lot of facts about the stars and Kennedy Space Center (visible from the lagoon) and the plankton, manatees, dolphins and other wildlife in the water we paddled through. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate but they offered to reschedule for us another time to come back. I would emphasize to make sure there is no chance of storms/rain in the area before you go so you aren't fighting the winds/currants and definitely pick a night when the moon is within their recommended guidelines. I would recommend trying this if you are a nature lover and want to experience something in central FL outside of the usual tourist attractions.

I apologize for the weather you encountered during your tour. Summer weather in Florida can be unpredictable! We really appreciate the feed back and we hope to paddle with you again in the future!

Highly disappointed that we drove 4 hours one way and paid what we did to celebrate our birthdays, for this. It was essentially night time kayaking with .01% bioluminescence. I understand you can’t control nature, but maybe don’t offer tours on nights where it’s not as likely to show when the moon is greater than 55%.

I apologize if the bioluminescence wasn't at it's brightest potential when you booked your tour with us. We highly suggest experiencing the bio when the moon is 55% or less. To help emphasize this factor before coming out on the water, we have the moon phase calendar available to guests on a few different areas on our website, as well multiple places on our booking system. It’s clear that you even understand this considering you mentioned the 55% in your review, but still booked on a night with a brighter moon. We even put on every individual day what the moon will be so you have the best idea of which night viewing will be best. The reason being, is that when the moon is very bright, it can cause reflections on the water making the bio less visible and your eyes won’t adjust to darkness as well as when there is little-to-no moonlight impeding on the viewing. We hope you’ll consider coming back on a night with less moon to get a better viewing experience of the incredible bioluminescence. We’d ask that you’d consider removing your review since we gave the experience in full and we have no control over the brightness of the moon.

Angela the tour guide was WONDERFUL! loved the bioluminescent! we went with 88% moon phase, but would recommend to go with a lower moon phase to have the bioluminescent be brighter blue! also a note to bring bug spray and even though you wont be able to capture it on your phone, it is so wonderful to see in person for yourself :) ALSO, do not try to GPS to the location by typing in Merritt Island National Refuge, because you will go to the WRONG location, and you HAVE to go directly to the address they send you on the day of the event! would recommend the business to put directional signs on the roads, to help the visitors!

We're so glad you enjoyed your bioluminescent tour with with Angela! The bio is going to be best viewed when the moon is 55% or less, but it's definitely still viewable even when the moon is above this percentage like you mentioned! We recommend using a camera that's able to shoot in very low lighting to capture the bio! We know it can get tricky out there with directions, especially in the dark, so thats why we have the pinned location in our confirmation emails, as well as the text we send the day of the tour! :) Thanks again so much for exploring with us!!
