This was the highlight of our trip to Chattanooga! My 12 and 15 year-olds were thrilled and described the experience as "magical." Seeing the bats was amazing, but the Osprey nest was really cool as well. We enjoyed the latter even more because we brought binoculars, but those aren't necessary (you can't really use them for the bats). The excursion was well-organized and efficient. Our two guides, Thomas and Luke, were outstanding. We have a lot of experience kayaking but between the guides, the equipment and the nature of the lake this tour would still work great for those new to kayaking. One comment on the equipment: The two guides can only keep up with a dozen or so guest kayaks. The larger the group, the more double kayaks they will use. Our group of 20 only had 4 single kayaks. Among the doubles, all but three were ride-on-top style. If you have a preference, don't be shy about making an early move for the boat you want. In our case, you "claimed" your kayak by grabbing the life jackets. Finally, you aren't likely to get wet but it's a good idea to have at least a zip lock bag for your car keys +/- phone/camera.

It was so great! I didn't realize we would go into the Tennessee River. That was really cool. The scenery was beautiful. We saw Osprey on the hunt for food. We saw an Osprey nest with some chicks. The bats were very cool. They came close to kayak so you could really see a lot of them. Our guide was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. I'm sorry I'm not good with names, but it was Tues evening 7/9 at Nickajack and he was the older gentleman. I highly recommend!

To begin, the guides provided clear instructions and tips to remain safe. Then throughout the duration of our tour, they provided insightful information about the beautiful local wildlife as the sun set beautifully in the background. The movement is easy paced, so people new to kayaking are unlikely to feel behind. The finale of the night was the endangered bat population that we got to watch fly out from their cave and encapsulate the environment surrounding us.
