We rode this train from Denali to Anchorage to catch our flight back home to Colorado that evening. We almost missed the flight because the train was running several hours late due to having to rescue 9 Princess Cruise cars that got stranded when their locomotive broke down. The staff, though, did everything they could to get crews swapped when their shift timed out, get power to the rescued cars so they could keep the lights on, get the extra cars disconnected in Anchorage and let my wife and I be the first ones off the train at the depot so we could get to baggage claim before the mob showed up. Everything worked out in the end. We opted for the Gold service, which was excellent in all respects. The food was very good, the cars were very comfortable and the outdoor area was a treat from which to view the scenery. We rarely sat inside. We even had a rare sighting of Denali. A highlight of the trip, besides the excellent service and the spectacular scenery, was when we passed another train on it's way up to Denali. Our friends were on it and both trains were stopped on the tracks at the same time. We could see them as the trains slowly started moving and we were close enough to slap each others' hands as we passed. That's got to be a very rare occurrence, indeed. This is probably one of the most impressive train rides in the U.S., and we highly recommend doing it if you're ever in Alaska.
