Went on this tour with a group. We were picked up at the Sheraton Kona. Our van was comfortable, air conditioned, and not too crowded. Our group had two vans so we had plenty of space. Our tour guide Kala Holiday won us over completely in the first few minutes. He is a very knowledgeable on Hawaiian history and culture, but also a great story teller. I gained so much insight and appreciation I would have completely missed on a self-guided tour of these parks and sites. Another highlight for me was the Big Island Bees organic honey farm. I learned so much about maintaining hives and the bee life! :) If you are very allergic to bee stings I would avoid but the bees didn't bother or seem at all interested in any one in our group. The hives were behind a screen but there were a few buzzing around us as well. The store is wholly charming. It was a hot, humid day on the day we toured, Kala didn't waste gas running the van but would start it a few minutes before we returned so getting back in the van for a nice cool ride to our next spot was a welcome relief. There were also iced cold drinks and water and he also pointed out water bottle refill spots. Lunch was at a gorgeous tide pool beach picnic table. Local style sweet potato, furakaki rice, fish and shoyu chicken. Ice cold drinks. More than I could eat. I appreciated the sustainable real bento box and real utensils. And all the water bottles were to be recycled. We listened to Hawaiian music and ended the day with an impromptu sing-a-long as we arrived back at our hotel. It was a sweet day. Mahalo Kala Holiday and Wasabi tours.

I booked the Kona Tour on June 13th, 2018 for my family of four. On the morning of the tour day, I got a bad cold (headache, sore throat, and fever), so I had to stay in the hotel room while the rest of my family went on the tour. My husband communicated the situation with the tour guide, and he was told to talk to the owner about a partial refund. When we called and emailed the owner, we were told to submit a doctor’s note. We explained to her that we could only access emergency care while on vacation in Hawaii, and a cold was not a severe enough reason to visit the ER. She never returned our email.

Our tour guide Dreu Basaldua was very knowledgable about the history, Geographie and the volocanos of Kona, the sunny side of Big Island. He led us to the most interesting landmarks and historical sites and told us a lot about life on Big Island Hawaii. A guide and a tour, which we can recommend highly.
