I've been rafting with my family and a number of youth groups along various rivers in a few different states. My recent experience with Mild to Wild on the Animas was pretty lame. The river barely moved, we spent most of the time rafting over (or trying to maneuver around) rocks, and we never got to swim or play in the river (the one time me and my daughter jumped in it was only 5 ft deep, and I told the guide to let us know when we could jump in and swim, she said ok...knowing there were no other opportunities to do so). I can't knock the Animas too hard because it is was it is (although it would have been nice to know it was like floating down you city canal before signing up). I can, however, be critical of the guides. They were not engaged in the activity at all. We showed up on time and waited around for 45 min waiting for instruction. The guides seemed to be having a blast among themselves, but when it came to our family and the other guest it felt like we were more of an annoyance than anything. I would recommend rafting a different river, or at least going with a different company if you're looking for a fun time with the family. There's plenty of other good options out there.
