Splash through Durango with an awesome river guide on the Lower Animas River! This adventure is an absolute must for visitors and locals alike.

Everyone loves this trip for its accessibility, picturesque scenery and rollicking rapids. It’s an adventure that offers a perfect mix of excitement and time to enjoy the sites along the way. We take rafters ages 4+!

Along the way you'll bound through plenty of Class II rapids and an exciting Class III at Smelter Whitewater Park. Class II rapids are "fun and friendly," rolling over the bow and dousing those at the front of the boat. Class III rapids are "wet and wild," usually soaking everyone in the raft head to toe.

Our experienced and entertaining river guides will get you downstream while sharing plenty of stories and fascinating history about the area. You're welcome to paddle with them or just sit back and relax

All trips come with a safety orientation and paddling instructions from the best river guides in Durango.

Your fun, knowledgeable and experienced river guides will get you fitted for a life jacket, helmet, and other river getup if needed (wetsuits when the weather/water is chilly). We'll then shuttle over to the river and have a quick safety orientation before heading out on the beautiful Animas River for an hour. We'll splash through plenty of refreshing Class II rapids, and one exciting Class III as we paddle downstream. Spring trips usually have higher flows with bigger splashes, while summer tends to have lower flows with more mild splashes. Our family has rafted many times over the years, but this year was a bit scared as we heard about the high water & multiple drownings in the news. We wanted to respect the river and be with the company we use every year. They were very careful about only opening up reservations this year after a careful assessment and changed the route to minimize the risk. Mike’s experience was the only thing that was capable of changing anxious nerves into smiles. My 7-year old laughed the whole time and felt safe. She was even able to try paddling during calm stretches and sit in the “captains chair” while we were stopped. We believe that even the slightest positive influence has the potential to change a child’s life. #greattimewithmike

Awwww....so great to read your review and story. Hopefully your 7 year old will become a future river guide for us now that she has sampled the "captain's chair"! #greattimewithmike. We love changing children's life with nature and adventure! Our overnight trips with kids are magical.

I can't say enough nice things about our experience rafting the Animas River with Mild to Wild. We weren't sure if our 9 year old would freak out just listening to the safety talk, but it was done in such a professional way (not at all scary!), and after about 20 seconds on the river, she was having a blast! Our guide, Kat, was AWESOME! She was great with all of the kids on our raft, made us laugh, and had the best stories to tell. We weren't ready to get off the river, so next time we'll do a longer trip for sure!

My family had such an amazing time on our white water rafting experience with Emma! She was so great with my kids and provided us with adventure, excitement and great energy! We drove all the way from Texas and can’t wait to plan our next trip to do it again! Definitely recommend Mild to Wild!
