My friend and I were super excited to do dog sledding in Fairbanks and it was our first activity of our trip. Seeing and petting the dogs was cool while we waited for the mushers to strap the dogs in. But when we did the sled ride, the supposed 1-hour sled ride was actually only 30 minutes (I noted the time to track), which was disappointing since we had paid for the full hour. They also had picked us up at 12:30pm, which was weird because the activity was supposed to start at 12pm, and we didn't get to the location until another 30-45 minutes later.
Something that really bothers me is that we felt rushed even though they claim that there would be "plenty of time to make your favorite Dog Mushing pictures and play with our Alaska huskies" (direct description from their website). We didn't get time to get full pictures of us in the sleds or with the strapped in huskies or even in the driver's seat after the ride ended, which was a bummer because my friend and I really wanted some cool shots of the activity. Something that probably wasn't as much in their control was the seating due to the weight distribution, but my friend and I were placed in the back of the sled with someone in the front, which blocked our view. But we were so rushed that they didn't even ask us who wanted to sit where.
The only positive about this tour is Joe, who was our driver, and that 1st Alaska was able to reschedule us to a later date when we couldn't travel on the original dates due to a positive COVID-19 test. Joe is super cool and knowledgeable. He's a native Alaskan and tells you very interesting stories about his time living in the state, as well as shows you some dope pictures of moose and more.
The musher described on the website, Sven, wasn't present so maybe our experience would have been different if he was there. All in all, either book with a different company or if you do book with this company, be prepared if this experience happens to you and before you leave the location, be very, very adamant on getting your pictures at least.
