Visite privée de 6 heures des droits civils de Montgomery

Aperçu
This tour will take us to some of the most important sites that defined the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama. Our journey will take us on a definitive and emotional story of the civil rights era that changed the fabric of American life and sparked a movement. From the pulpit where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached to the spot where Mrs. Rosa Parks refuse to give up her seat on a Montgomery City bus. Afterwards, we'll continue on to the Civil Rights Memorial center and many other sites related to the Civil Rights movement. It's been said that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

This was clearly the highlight of our summer vacation. We saw so many locations where important history was made. Mr. Williams knew firsthand because he was there at the time. He has so many stories that make the history come alive. We ate lunch at a "hole in the wall" restaurant that had really good southern food and a friendly ambience. A couple of tips if you're not as knowledgeable (and we were definitely not). It is possible to conflate the timeline of the bus boycott with the Selma march; but these events are separated by ten years or so. Also, we studied up a bit prior to the tour so it would not overwhelm, including watching a couple of movies (2014 "Selma" movie was one). The day after our tour we left Montgomery going back through Selma and actually drove around Selma to revisit a couple of the areas of interest. If we would have had more time, we would have liked to travel to Marion where Jimmie Lee Jackson was murdered. Finally, the story of Viola Liuzzo was fascinating though outrageous; and we stopped on our own at her memorial site to pay our respects. The fight continues.

This is a tour like no other. Jake is simply the most knowledgeable, professional, personable tour guide you will meet. I thought I knew a lot already, having lived through the 1960s, but Jake gave a breadth and depth of information that is invaluable to understanding Selma and Montgomery. Suitable for all ages and backgrounds. If you are anywhere near Alabama, go with Jake.
