This was my first visit to Savannah - an impromptu 5 hour slot in a road trip. I lucked out in getting into a tour as a walk-in, and used it to get the lay of the land for the remainder of my hours. The ladies running the shop were friendly, supportive, funny, and knowledgeable about the area. They were prepared for our group's differences in ability and experience; there were opportunities to enjoy the Segway for all of us on the road. We were well-watched and shepherded on the streets, and the commentary was interesting and informative as well as not over the top/excessive. All in all, a great experience, and I got an excellent recommendation for lunch as well. Thanks for a really fun and unexpected side-trip; I recommend it to anyone - regardless of whether you've been on a Segway or not.

My wife and I took the 90-minute afternoon Savannah Segway Historic Tour during a recent visit to Savannah. We chose this tour because of the good reviews here, and we thought it would be a good way to get oriented on our first full day in Savannah. We had a great time! Our tour was supposed to start at 2:00pm (with Segway training at 1:45). We were exploring the area on foot and were near the Adventures in Motion office, so we dropped in an hour early to fill out whatever paperwork we would need, figuring we would come back an hour later for the tour. We were greeted by Lisa, one of the tour guides, who was very friendly. As it turns out, we were the only people on the 2:00 tour, so Lisa told us we could go early, as soon as our tour guide Mary finished eating lunch. The office TV was playing the movie "Something to Talk About," which takes place in Savannah, and Lisa was proudly pointing out some of the places we were going to see on the tour. While Mary was eating, Lisa gave us our Segway training session (indoors). We had done a Segway tour once before, last year in Washington DC, so we felt pretty comfortable on the Segways right away. When Mary was ready, she told us how the tour was going to proceed, then we grabbed our radios and helmets and were off, about 45 minutes early. Mary explained that Savannah has restrictions on where Segways can go, and we had to stay in the street (no sidewalks) and out of certain pedestrian areas in the parks. We followed her as she pointed out the various points of interest in the Historic District, told us interesting stories (which could have been made up for all we knew, but they were still interesting :-). The Adventures in Motion web site has details on what you see so I won't repeat them here, but we covered a lot of territory; because there were just the two of us and we were comfortable on the Segways, we finished the regular tour in less than 2 hours and Mary was able to show us a couple of extra points of interest. The tour included a 20 minute stop to explore the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. When riding the Segways, we travelled slowly (compared with our previous tour in DC), but at one point Mary gave us a few minutes to zip up and down a quiet street at top speed, which, on a Segway, is not very fast. Once we had satisfied our need for speed, we were on our way. We really enjoyed the tour, and Mary was very informative and a great guide. If you're looking for a fun and interesting way to explore Savannah, I highly recommend this tour or one of their other Segway tours.

As a first time Segway rider, I can tell you, do not be afraid. This was so much fun. Crystal was our leader, and she was great, not only as our momma duck, but also with her knowledge of the city and its history. This is a great city for your first Segway experience because the traffic is slow and you can safely share the road with the vehicles. Well run tour. You will love it.
