We booked the morning Royal Gorge 1/2 day trip on July 10th. Trip was scheduled for 9, but we arrived a little after 8 and started out before 8:30. The guide was thorough in explaining the safety procedures and what to do. It was a quick drive to the place to put the boats in. Also, the office is just a few miles just ouside of Canon City. Just the other boat in our group and us on the river. E man said this company keeps groups small, which we liked. Being early pays off sometimes. Our guide, E Man, said it is warmer in the mornings since it rains often in afternoons and cools things down. River was beautiful! Some of my family rented water booties for $5. They said they were comfortable. Our trip included the life vest and helmet. E Man was awesome! E Man had us practice the paddeling while in calm water at the beginning. He is very experienced and shared with us his amazing places he has rafted. He shared lots of information about the history of the river area. He helped us feel very comfortable and guided us through the rapids with calmness and confidence. We had 16 rapids total. He said June the river would be faster, but we were still good during early July. We floated under the Royal Gorge Bridge and a train went by while we were on the river. The drive back was quick as well. Then we sanitize the lifejacket in a solution and water. There are changing rooms there for you to change in. Gift store has lots of selections and prices good. We also purchased the picture package for $55. They emailed and text me the pictures. They were from one spot on the river and there were many.
We would highly recommend Arkansas River Tours. Professional, experienced guides, company has been around for 50 years, fun, reasonably priced, and they make it fun. This was our first time with 16 and 19 year olds and both of us late 40's. Have fun!
