Magnificent glasshouse orchid show by a Mexican artist. Lived in NYC in the past and this is the best spot in town. Doubted it could get any more picturesque or stunning than the phenomenal Chihuley exhibit pre-COVID, but the orchid show this year was absolutely stunning in its own way. Loved it and can’t wait to return on my next trip to NYC.

Visited on a very cold early February day, nothing out in the gardens i.e comparing to Kew Gardens atm, and the expected maples didn’t jump out at me, but I guess weather is colder in NYC than London. The glass house was lovely but a large part closed due to preparation for the upcoming orchid festival. We were just unlucky in our timing and very expensive at $38 I feel there should have been a winter entry rate! The little train was an invaluable helpful in getting around.

We went to the Botanical Garden in winter specifically to see the Holiday Train exhibit. It was well worth the trip and the cost as the exhibit was larger and more amazing than expected. Before entering the conservatory building on the outside there are several little train setups. Once you enter, there are more trains along with a lot of beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Then moving along, you enter the Botanical Garden, where there are even more trains along with replicas of famous landmarks in or near NYC. For example, there is a replica of Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty and much, much more. Trains are moving all around these areas, which was very interesting. Once finished with the trains, you can move on to walk through the rainforest area and desert region of the NYBG. It is also nice to walk around the grounds, especially after it snows as everything is quite beautiful. To get to the NYBG, you can take the train from Grand Central Station – it is approx. a half hour away and the Botanical Garden entrance is right across from the Train Station stop. Note: I paid extra for the ‘enter any time pass’, as I wasn’t sure when we would get there and I figured I could think of the extra money as a donation to the NYBG.
