We were on a day-long tour with Keith. We were hopeful, since he is a local who is familiar with the island inside and out.
His demeanor, however, was not kind or welcoming.... completely lacking in "aloha spirit."
1) He opened the tour by telling us that it was HIS bus and he demands RESPECT. He proceeded to tell us how to say SHUT UP in Hawaiian and followed by telling us how to say SHUT THE HELL UP in Hawaiian. Despite the fact that no one was talking, this was our welcome to the tour greeting.
2) He then proceeded to tell us he was doing things in a different way than the itinerary we were given because he knew better than his bosses. We spent too much time doing some things and not enough doing others--- completely missed diamond head.
3) There was a misunderstanding on the bus regarding alcohol. At one point, he asked if anyone had any alcohol onboard. Someone said they brought some beers for picnic lunch. The beers were not opened and were in a backpack. He RAILED on the poor man who was there with his kids and parents. Later, he stopped so everyone could buy alcohol if they wanted. ?????
4) He yelled at a pregnant passenger.
5) He yelled at a passenger during taking her lunch order.
6) He told us not to swim in Waikiki because the city pumps sewage water into the Waikiki Bay. He went into great, disgusting detail on this one.... Note: We were all staying at Waikiki. Not the welcome ambassador Hawaii would want.
Despite the beautiful sites we saw on the tour (Waimea Bay, North Shore, etc) and the nice lunch spot (Fumis) and added stop at Leonards (for Malasaladas) I can't recommend. The talk on the tour was not about the sites, but about our miserable guide.
