I've traveled a lot around the world and and been on quite a few tours through TripAdvisor. This is one of the best! Why? -The driver and guide, Rob Taylor, was genuinely warm, knowledgeable, answered any question, and poured an amazing amount of easily digested information into us all day and into the night. He pointed out many things as we went including moose, ptarmigan birds, and a beautiful fox, and stopped for amazing Aurora Borealis lights that were filling the sky. He was clearly a competent and safe driver throughout on a road that was challenging to say the least. -I was surprised how many fascinating stops were had, each fascinating and fun. -On several occasions, Rob's information was augmented by short and interesting videos, including the building of the Alaskan pipeline, Native elders hunting and fishing in the wilderness, etc. -Yes, there were plenty of stops for restrooms including one super clean outhouse (aka a pit toilet) for all to enjoy. -The various Alaskan landscapes? Oh my. The boreal forest, the very wide Yukon river (which was frozen over and we walked on), the tundra, rolling hills, high mountains, vistas that went on so far. -The Alaskan pipeline was near the road most of the time as the road was built and maintained for it. -The adventure bus was well-outfitted for this frozen, gravel road and was warm, plenty of windows to see out of, and overhead room for carried backpacks, coats, etc. -Despite being literally in the middle of nowhere, I felt safe the entire time.

Is a 16 hour tour worth it?...read this! I brought a book, airpods, a sandwich, chocolate, water, apples and cheese, and hoped for the best. NO NEED for the book or airpods! There was not a minute I wasn't engaged by Rob's (United States Veteran, Alaska resident, Trapper, Outdoor Educator, and don't forget safe tour bus operator!), expert commentary? Entertainment? History Lesson? Natural History enrichment course? Personal crash course in Alaskan culture and natural wonders? What to call it? "peak experience" after "peak experience". Rolling, immersion into native Alaska living, fun facts about the Alaska vs. "The Lower 48), Bear, Wolf, the Gold Rush, The Pipeline, the wisdom of Native Athabascan culture while riding the Dalton Highway, hearing brief, polite CB Radio exchanges as the truckers who work the highway keep the tour bus driver informed of any road conditions or work being done to maintain the highway, interspersed with short videos....you will get an up close and full on Alaskan experience on this trip. And don't get me started on the "Enchanted Forest"!! Feeding Alaskan Gray Jays out of your hand at the Arctic Circle, the Alaska pipeline.....and the Aurora put on a spectacular show that kept the "Awe-Filled" Alaskan experience going until we were dropped off at our car. Which did I enjoy the most? The genuine, love Rob has for Alaska and ability to share a day with strangers and part as part of their life experience. You will not regret this day! Practical Tips...pack snacks, order from advance menu opportunity to support the local business at the Yukon bridge stop, dress in layers, bus is warm and flush toilet on board the bus with frequent stops, the only time I got cold was my fingers taking pictures, bring a water bottle, you will stop at an artesian well pumping water 24/7, Rob demonstrates his barista skills (LOL) at the Arctic Circle, hot chocolate/cider/tea/coffee and if you smile....2 pieces of chocolate! Rob's sense of humor and encouragement of questions made the day! Wish I could upload video!

Thank you! Yes, that often is the concern we hear from guests when they are looking at taking this trip..."what are we going to do/see in all of that time". THANK YOU for sharing what you did see and experience. So glad you didn't need your book or airpods. Your details will really help others make a decision. Happy Travels!
