Overall, it was a great trip with fun cycling, beautiful scenery and a fun/informative guide, McKensie. Normally there are two guides per outing, but due to busy season, we had one. That means part of the cycling was on our own while the guide drove the van to the next stop. We had 3 levels of cyclists. Experienced cyclists, intermediate and beginners. The beginners struggled with the hills and the temperamental gears. By the 2/3 mark, half of our group chose to ride in the van the rest of the way. The experienced road bikers didn’t have any trouble. The second half of the tour is a little more challenging if you are not comfortable riding in the streets with lots of traffic and hills.

Thanks for your review. As a business owner replying to reviews for tours, the guests did not take (You took the 5 Lighthouse Tour) on a platform Trip Advisor Experiences ( we don't sell the 5 Lighthouse tour via TripAdvisor can be challenging. The tour covers 14 miles in 4 to 5 hours so the pace is slow and most people can complete tour. We have one of the lowest guests to guide ratio of any provider with a max of 7 customers per 1 guide. Having the guide in the van created more flexibility for customers allowing those not wishing to complete the cycling a graceful exit.

I’m not sure how we managed but we were the only two people on this tour today. Norm is very friendly and outgoing. He was able to share small bits of information and history of Portland at many brief stops along the way. We enjoyed our time and will most likely take a different tour next time we visit Portland.

The Summer feet bike tour “Around the Peninsula” was a real highlight of our trip to Portland Maine. The tour started at 10:30am allowing us time for breakfast ahead of time. We met our guide Caroline at summer feet’s bike storage area approximately 1 block north of the Casco Bay pier on east side of commercial avenue. The bikes were individually adjusted to ensure a proper fit for each of us (my wife, myself and my nephew). The bikes were clean and well maintained and included storage bag on the tail rack of each bike to store cameras, phones, keys, etc. We were all given chilled bottles of water for the ride. Some thoughtful unexpected extras were sunblock spray and even a hair band and to hold my wife’s hair back in a ponytail. We were also provided bike helmets. Our guide Caroline was very knowledgeable about Portland and it’s history, pointing out interesting landmarks and sharing local history, activities and interesting things to see and do while in Portland. She was very mindful to set an appropriate pace for us old timers and kept us out of high traffic areas. Most of the ride was on bike or multi use trails or through residential streets with little or no traffic. We always felt safe from cars and enjoyed the exercise and fresh air. Caroline stopped at a few strategic locations to point out beautiful vistas and share some interesting facts about Portland, these stops also gave us time to drink water and rest our legs and rear ends. After we finished the tour, Caroline took us to a cute local coffee shop “Arabica” for a coffee and sweet treat. I highly recommend the Summer Feet Around The Peninsula bike tour and suggest asking for Caroline as your guide.
