The Summer feet bike tour “Around the Peninsula” was a real highlight of our trip to Portland Maine.
The tour started at 10:30am allowing us time for breakfast ahead of time. We met our guide Caroline at summer feet’s bike storage area approximately 1 block north of the Casco Bay pier on east side of commercial avenue.
The bikes were individually adjusted to ensure a proper fit for each of us (my wife, myself and my nephew). The bikes were clean and well maintained and included storage bag on the tail rack of each bike to store cameras, phones, keys, etc. We were all given chilled bottles of water for the ride. Some thoughtful unexpected extras were sunblock spray and even a hair band and to hold my wife’s hair back in a ponytail. We were also provided bike helmets.
Our guide Caroline was very knowledgeable about Portland and it’s history, pointing out interesting landmarks and sharing local history, activities and interesting things to see and do while in Portland. She was very mindful to set an appropriate pace for us old timers and kept us out of high traffic areas. Most of the ride was on bike or multi use trails or through residential streets with little or no traffic. We always felt safe from cars and enjoyed the exercise and fresh air. Caroline stopped at a few strategic locations to point out beautiful vistas and share some interesting facts about Portland, these stops also gave us time to drink water and rest our legs and rear ends.
After we finished the tour, Caroline took us to a cute local coffee shop “Arabica” for a coffee and sweet treat.
I highly recommend the Summer Feet Around The Peninsula bike tour and suggest asking for Caroline as your guide.
