Floating across the dunes is an amazing fun experience. The training and comfort you get from the instructors is great. It doesn't feel scary at all, since the instructors hold your glider the whole time, and you get 5 maybe 6 feet off the ground tops. Overall, a great introductory experience. Important! It is HARD WORK! Be prepared to climb sand dunes, hike about 0.25miles in sand, and then RUN RUN RUN down the dune... only to have to climb back up it. It's very hard and hot work. [but worth it!]

This experience was amazing and breathtaking ! We were looking for fun and unique experiences for our family this year and several people recommended hang gliding. I am so glad we listened. I had not been to Jockys Ridge in almost 20 years so I forgot how demanding it was to walk on the dunes...but it was worth all the energy I put into it. Our whole family was able to do this activity together and my kids seemed naturals. I was nervous but after the first flight and landing on my feet easily I felt totally at ease. Wolf and Allison were so enthusiastic and made my girls feel like rock stars and helped me loose any nerves I had remaining. The wind died down because of the heat so my husband and I were not going to be able to do our final flight of the 5. Wolf let the girls take the flight on our place. We got some amazing pictures and even though it was insanely hot (over 100) we have memories we will talk about for years! Highly recommend these hang gliding lessons!!!

In any other time this would have been a 5 star experience, but it was marred by the fact that the instructors were not wearing masks, even when close to others, or encouraging social distancing. I think that’s probably fine up in the dune where the winds are blowing and there is plenty of space, but during the 20-30 min down by the office plaza, the main instructor pulled down his mask after about 2 minutes then proceeded to yell enthusiastically (to be heard and get people involved) in to the group for the next 20 minutes. I kept my family to the back far from him, but there was a group just 3-4 feet from him, facing him. With by far the majority of Dare County’s cases (which are ion the rise) being found in the 18-24 age group they Need to wear masks. If students don’t want to wear theirs, ok, but the instructors have to. None of the other 4-5 instructors wore masks either, and were entering and leaving the store/office with no masks. The class and experience itself were great, but I wish I’d left when I saw how lack they were. Just be aware.
