This was our favorite part of the visit to Pittsburgh. Our guide, Corrie, provided an in depth, intimate view of Pittsburgh with all of its nuances. She took us through the evolution of the city from the French-Indian war to the rise of the steel industry with its robber barons to the adoption of the black and gold (sorry Corrie, still not a convert!) to the modern day reinvention of the city as, in part, a major regional medical hub.
There were also so many stops not listed on the itinerary such as the William Penn hotel and its speakeasy. We also stopped at many squares with interesting histories and even their farmer's market which was in session the day we toured.
I can't recommend this tour enough. I am sure that any guide would be great, but if you are fortunate enough to have Corrie, you have hit a home run, Pittsburgh style.
