Great small group tour in a very nice Mercedes Sprinter van with a high energy, informative, and entertaining guide named Dreu. On our 12 hour tour around Kona we not only got to see many important sites, but were told stories about the native Hawaiians and their beliefs. Dreu is not a Hawaiian native, but displayed a great respect for the traditions and history of the island. We began the day being introduced to an old time coffee farm and how the process works from picking the bean to drying on an old rooftop. We also saw the devastated southern end of the island that is just a huge lava field. The hi-lite for me was visiting the Alaska water fall and the rainforest at that stop on the tour. (I did get wet....) Lastly, being able to walk through an old lava flow tunnel was a bit scary. That was because we visited Kilauea and the saw steam vents, the bottom of the volcano (from a distance) and the four ridges surrounding the volcano that were created by previous eruptions. That was a reminder of the awesome power inside the earth.. Dreu is a very experienced guide who has conducted hundreds of tours like ours, but his personality and approach kept us interested and excited to be on his tour. He should be voted the number one guide on the island.....
