There's no question the tour guides are professional and talented historians and storytellers. My family, including my reluctant 12 yo and her easily distracted 9 yo brother, all enjoyed 90 minutes of eloquent and compelling anecdotes ranging from famous events to lesser known historical figures and Boston architecture. The guides sought out shady spots on a hot day, and we had no difficulty hearing despite a large group.
This is the only reason for losing a star. The large group size was difficult to corral at times, and took away some of the willingness to ask questions. I feel we also lost the opportunity to get a closer look at some of the gravestones and other sites.
That being said, having the guide play off his character added to the charm of the tour, and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
