the whole tour consists of 9 stops around boston if you stayed on it would take an hour. The cool thing was that the ticket was good all day so you could "hop on and hop off" all day.

My family of 4, including 2 teens, took this trolley tour as a last minute activity on our arrival day. We were staying at the Marriott Custom House near Quincy Market, so a quick walk over to the wharf/pier and the trolley and duck tour area was all it took. We bought tickets and walked on to a trolley. I opted for this one as it does the shorter route around the city versus the green/orange trolleys, which go all the way down to Fenway, etc... a much longer tour. Thank god I did this one, as by the time we reached Boston Common I was like "get me off this thing!". Now - that's not at all the trolley tour's fault. The trolley was fine. The view out the big windows was great, the tour guide was very interesting, informative and occasionally funny in a "hardy-har-har" kind of way. My teens thought he was hilarious on occasion (I never got past "hardy-har-har"). There were times when the driver referenced events (often personal events) that drew a complete blank from my teens (i.e Nam era and the psychedelic 60's). The Boston history and city facts were very very good. I was impressed at the factual description of Paul Revere's ride (something I knew, but my family did not, and so they learned a little something there). The reason that I ended up not liking this tour was because of the traffic. Not the tour company's fault. I know that traffic in Boston is deadly. I tend to get a little irritated with traffic, and so by the time we (finally) hit Boston Common, I had to get off. Had to. I was done. I could have had a nap in between the bridge and Boston Common. So if you're looking to sneak in a nap, this might be for you. At Boston Common, we hopped off, did the common and swan boats, walked up to the Paul Revere/John Hancock/Sam Adams cemetery, popped in the Omni Parker House for a look-around, had some iced coffee, and then headed back to the hotel via the Freedom Trail. None of us wanted to get back on the trolley. Was it worth the $$ for us ($36 per person)? No way, and I'm not one to be stingy about money spent on a vacation. That said, I should've known that no amount of entertaining and informative facts would make it okay for me to sit in heinous traffic for endless stretches of time. (Note - we went at about 2PM on a week day, so it wasn't rush hour or anything.) My husband and kids were Boston first-timers. My husband felt that it was probably a good way to quickly see the sites, while the kids found it kind of interesting and kind of fun to ride the trolley. My older daughter got reprimanded for talking overly loudly during the tour, right as I was about to shush her myself. I mean, I was on it like white on rice, but I still couldn't beat the driver to the punch. That said, I didn't hold it against him. But know that going in, too - the point is made (over and over again at every single stop) that this is a narrated tour, so don't expect to have interaction with your party except in whispers, and expect to be shushed if you're too loud.

The drivers were helpful and provided better information than the other tours we went on. This company was included in the Boston Go pass. There wasn’t much of a wait at the various stops.
