After reading a large number of positive TripAdvisor reviews, I booked the 4 pm (Sunset), 4-hour, NAVTEC Expeditions 4WD, Canyonlands (Islands in the Sky) Tour. I am very glad that I did and would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience the isolated, and spectacular parts of Canyonlands National Park that most tourists will never get to experience.
Our driver, Kelly, handled the rugged gravel roads with ease and gave us just enough commentary that was informative and clearly showed his love of the landscape yet allowed us time to just stare at the incredible desert scenery and soak it all in. The towering rock formations, the petroglyphs, the petrified wood, the balancing rock, and the large, man-made, bright-blue dyed potash evaporation ponds were fascinating to see and stopping to watch the sunset near the end of our tour was gorgeous, but, for me, the two biggest thrills were standing at the exact location where the final, dramatic scene of “Thelma & Louise” was filmed and when our four-wheel drive climbed up narrow, mountain-hugging, and slightly hair-raising Shafer Trail.
If you want to experience a true, off-road, 4WD adventure (without the dangers of attempting it on your own), the 4-hour, NAVTEC Expeditions 4WD Canyonlands Tour is definitely for you.
