My wife and I ventured on the "Taste of the Italian Market Tour" back in December 2018. My wife father's ancestors hail from southern Italy and growing up in a traditional Italian family she was skeptical on how Italian it would be.
We were first to arrive on our day for the tour which gave my wife & Chef Jacquie some extra time to chat. They talked about her childhood memories of visiting Philly's 9th street market. She was hooked and excited as Chef Jacquie had also grown up and knew the neighborhood.
For me this was a first, but as a self-proclaimed food junkie, all I need is good eats to be pleased. It was everything I was hoping for and more. I gain added history of how the market started and has grown over the years to what it is now. We tasted meats, cheese, oils, pizza just to name a few.
Chef Jacquie had many recommendations to forward along to the group. Once the tour was over I asked about the best meatball place and fresh pasta. Without hesitation Chef Jacquie said follow me "I'm headed over to get some meatballs myself". So of course we did!! We picked up some fresh made meatballs and spaghetti.
When we got we made and eat the meatballs and spaghetti. My wife only reply was "Oh my goodness, this was just like Aunt Isabella when I was a little girl"
We even followed her suggestion for a Sicilian Sunday Dinner.
Well done Chef Jacquie, Thank You
