Yesterday, we did a "Kids Krew" Pirate tour in historic downtown. I am a deal blogger, meaning I find and share ways to do more with your kids without busting your budget. Therefore, I chose this activity because it was cheap. I found a deal for half price, plus 20% off making it $12 for 2 kids, and adults are free. I really didn't expect much out of it at that price being as most other attractions in the city are $15-20 per person. So, $12 for all 4 of us...what do we have to lose?
I was blown away. This pirate started off by telling us about himself, then sharing why he does this. Because he watches kids walk through all that history with faces in phones, and literally running into historic buildings without a clue. He then showed us some things that had been dug up literally this week at a construction site behind where we met him. He told them about pirates and why they do what they do, about St. Augustine, about why it was special, how old it was, etc. As we went through town, he would take them into various stores and they would "raid" them (collecting candy). They snuck around the walls on the street "hiding from the soldiers at the fort" while hugging the fence to not be too close to traffic (landships). We passed by that construction site and were able to look for artifacts.
The tour lasted more than a half hour, and the kids learned to use a compass, a spyglass and make sparks with flint. Not to mention all the history they were exposed to. I literally was blown away at how great this cheap little kids tour was. Highly recommend this!
