There are two Chinatowns, one that you see from a van or bus, and the one that can only be experienced on foot in the back alleys, food markets, and local restaurants.

One Chinatown, the one from the bus, is interesting. Our Chinatown will surprise you with new adventures around every corner. In our Chinatown, artisans form Fortune Cookies by hand. In our Chinatown, artisans practice their craft in small alleys using techniques handed down for thousands of years. And in our Chinatown, the authentic cuisine will enliven your senses with new flavors, smells, and aromas.

We'll explore exotic and unique Asian produce, herbs, and teas from the very people who know them best. We'll uncover their hidden secrets only intrepid locals know. And you'll be astonished by the new finds in secret alcoves.

We'll spend about three hours eating everything from Dim Sum, fortune cookies, teas, and more.

Okay, truth be told, I've only been on four food tours. But they've all been this year and they include Charleston, South Carolina; London, England's East End; and San Fransisco's Mission District. This is the best one. Robert, our guide, took us to distinct locations, fed us well, and injected the tour with cultural destinations. Every stop was interesting. Robert knew everyone so the establishments were welcoming and playful. The food stops served us unique dishes that didn't scare off the squeemish. Nothing super weird, but still many things that I've never eaten. Great tour. Can't recommend it enough. My pictures mostly show the non-food stops. All my food pictures have pix of family and friends, so I didn't post them.

My first walking food tour was amazing, thanks to our guide Robert. He was thoughtful about his choices, took us to great restaurants, and had all the best local details of Chinatown. He even made a special deal out of my daughter's 16th birthday. We had a super time, and I wished I'd left enough time to do the North Beach tour for Italian Food. I would go again - highly recommended, and great value, I thought. Thank you, Robert!

I could have never found these landmarks or restaurants alone, so I am pleased to recommend Isabella, our tour guide. She was an amazing wealth of information about the area and the cuisine. We stopped four times for sustenance: 3 times for meals/snacks, 1 time for a lesson in tea prep. We did not go into the temple because we didn't trust our walking abilities, but all other portions of the tour were fabulous. Also, I must shout out to Tom, whom I didn't meet, but who responded immediately to my afterhours request for information via the website. He was a wealth of information about the hotel I had reserved and the area. He gave impeccable directions over the phone. I don't know how they make money because I think we ate a good $60 worth of food. We did the 10 am tour. If you do it also, do NOT eat breakfast first!
