Gary, our guide, was great. He was very knowledgable about the area and the various flora and fauna we encountered along the way. He is good natured and willingly shared his knowledge and experience. I would give Gary five stars.
Unfortunately I have to give the tour company a fewer stars. First, because they were clearly aware, but did not tell us until we were on the river, that dredging of the Weeki Wachee was going on at the time—which impacted water visibility. These are clear bottom boats, so this is an important thing to tell people. Also, we understood this would be quiet kayak experience, however the number boats and the crowds using the Weeki Wachee on that day was unbelievable. Felt like we were kayaking in Grand Central Station for the last 1/2 mile up and back. Fortunately, the sections along the first mile and half are quiet and pleasant, but once on Weeki Watchee, be ready for possible crowded conditions. This is obviously not in their control, but they could have at least warned us. Both about water quality and the potential for crowded conditions, which can impact the quality of the experience—and br challenging if you are a beginner kayaker.
