To be sure we had a chance to see everything, we dedicated two and a half days of our trip to Williamsburg. People say that some buildings and activities are still closed due to COVID and they are correct. Some of the taverns are closed, some of the trade locations are shut down and most of the restaurants have very limited hours. So please call and plan ahead. Basically, things aren't quite right yet. That being said, we had an amazing time. We stayed at the Williamsburg Inn which really does offer close proximity to the historic area (2 blocks). If you like colonial buildings Williamsburg offers numerous photo opportunities you just can't turn down. Although there were a few areas like right in front of the Governers Palace that were being excavated by heavy machinery so a nice photo was impossible. The interpretive characters were present (even during the week) and really made the experience come alive. The clothes shop in particular was fantastic. We really wanted a hat for my son and this appeared to be the best place to get one. We had to wait about a half-hour for anyone to acknowledge our presence (:(, but when he did the hat maker helped my son pick out a handmade custom hat you couldn't get anywhere else in the district. The lady in the Capitol building was equally as engaging and knowledgeable about her subjects. We even got to see George Washington riding down D G street on his horse. Even the museums offered something in terms of artwork and artifacts. Then there were the sheep we saw grazing in the fields. If you go this summer it will be hot, but trust me when I say you will be glad you did.

We love Colonial Williamsburg! I went years ago as a teen and had the fun of taking our teens to visit this past summer. They enjoyed it so much we're planning to go back soon to enjoy some of the things we missed. Even in the heat, and post-Covid lock down, the shopkeepers, street actors, & staff were upbeat, helpful and fun. It is a great way to learn about out our nation's history and start as a country. If you go, please be considerate and kind to the street actors - they are actors portraying our nation's history, not candidates or participants in debates on political issues. Plan time for Jamestown, as well. We spent most of a day at Colonial Williamsburg and did not see everything, much less make it to Jamestown.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Lend me your ear! Williamsburg has a story to tell. But just like other traveling sites, they’ve been hit by the pandemic. Buildings and crafts, colonial houses and other experiences were not available on a daily basis - maybe because they couldn’t get enough help. I strongly feel that ticket prices should reflect this. And - don’t go in August! Too humid! Their trolley busses made it so convenient to get around. I’d love to come back but want a better inclusive experience.
