We love Colonial Williamsburg. We hadn't been in almost 20 years and it was as nice as we remembered plus there were new things to see. Every person should visit once and learn about how colonial people lived at the time of the revolution. The week we visited was in December so we were treated to a Friday evening of caroling and yule logs and on Saturday they had fireworks. All the houses were decked out with hand-made wreaths. Though it was covid, we were allowed to tour the Governor's Mansion and the Capitol. You could also go inside the Coffee Shop and get a sample of coffee from the past. The rest of the tours were outside. Carriage rides were also offered. My only problem each time I visit is the lack of lunch food within the historic area and we went on a winter Monday when most restaurants were closed. Each time I tell myself I should have brought a sandwich. There is so much to see and do, I highly recommend the 2-day pass. It is only $10 more and it allows you flexibility to see everything.

Bought the Bounce three day pass, quite a deal. Strolled through the historic sites, stopping in at sites open (with flags), and benefiting from the seasoned craftsman and meeting the apprentices. Short guided tour at the Governor's Palace and the Capitol well done and enjoyed the gunsmith, bookbinder and blacksmith. A favorite for me was the wide array of wreaths on doors and windows with natural fruit and plant decorations. Recommend a careful review of the ticketed events to arrange ahead of time. The bus shuttle is convenient and frequent. What is striking is how much the staff is engaged and the sense of professional pride evidenced. We visited mid-week the week of Dec 6 with low tourist volume. COVID protocols observed.

We haven't been to Colonial Williamsburg for so long that we could barely remember anything about it. December weather can be pretty cold and unpredictable and the pandemic is still causing all kinds of problems so we didn't know what to expect and were just happy to be able to be there. We ended up enjoying it a lot! The standout highlight for me was Ron Carnegie performing George Washington's Farewell speech. It was so moving especially when applied to things going on in the U.S. today. I have read the speech since hearing it done by Mr. Carnegie and it doesn't even seem like the same words without his interpretation and emphases. We also enjoyed the singing and dancing during the outdoor stage performance of "Lucinda and the Lottery." The shuttle was very handy and running regularly. We rode it around the entire complex just before leaving. All of the living history characters present were so good and so informative. It was a beautiful day walking around visiting them. I have a feeling, though, that not nearly as many were present as before the pandemic. As we roamed around it felt pretty much like a shadow of what we feel it probably is like during normal times. However, we also enjoyed the absence of the crowds that apparently occur during those better times! I wish we had researched the things to do more thoroughly before going. In reading some of the other reviews, I think we probably missed some interesting and fun things!
