The cruise was perfect with lots of animal sightings such as Minke whale, puffins, sea lions, and even several mountain goats. It was beautiful to see the glacier and some of the giant calving that was happening. The captain was very well-versed in the human and natural history of the area. The crew was very friendly and helpful in answering my questions.

What an amazing day in Valdez. The crew was very friendly, and the captain of the ship was knowledgeable. I can highly recommend the glacier tour. Alaska in the Fall presents amazing colors.

We were quite disappointed with the cruise as we had booked the Mears Glacier cruise before leaving Australia and we were really looking forward to seeing the Mears Glacier, however when we got to Valdez there was a message for us from the tour company and we were told our trip had been cancelled due to bad weather but we could either go on the Columbia Glacier tour or get a refund. Both boats left for the Columbia Glacier the next day but no one else seemed to be disappointed that they weren’t on the cruise they had booked and there were a lot of tour ship passengers which made me think that’s the reason the longer Mears Glacier cruise was cancelled, not enough of us and too many for the 6 hour cruise to Columbia. Also no sign of bad weather. We were told that there would be a better chance to see the glacier calving because we would spend approximately 1 hour there. We were actually there much less than 1 hour. There was no real effort to seek out wildlife on the way, but we did see some harbour seals, sea lions and the sea otters were cute. Commentary was average and there was no warning that we were getting close to the glacier. Trip back was pretty boring as we were too far away from the shoreline to see anything. If you are also planning a stop in Seward we would highly recommend doing a Kenai Fjords cruise instead, that one was really good value for money.
