This well-preserved window to the past was the filming location for the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s famous bike scene. Be sure to take lots of selfies and share them with us on social media!

There’s no shortage of things to see and do in Springdale, but what you’ll definitely want to do first is grab your gear! If you want hiking sticks or waterproof clothing, swing by one of the adventure shops to rent some equipment. Need a bite before hitting the trails? Springdale has several scrumptious breakfast cafes to choose from.

Zion National Park is the third most visited park in the United States—and for good reason! Mesas and mountains, cliffs and canyons, Zion’s beauty draws in visitors from all over the world. We’ll take you on an epic adventure from La Verkin up through famous Zion Canyon, and exit out of East Zion—a little over 50 miles on an unforgettable journey. Along the way, we’ll stop at inspiring overlooks, abandoned ghost-towns, slot canyons, ancient pictographs, and more! Shaka Guide gives you the freedom to choose where and how we explore Zion.

Zion Canyon Visitor Center
We made it to Zion Canyon! Here at our first park stop, take a moment to talk to the rangers, grab a map, use the restroom, and fill up your water bottles. If you need a wilderness permit, this is where you’ll pick one up. Be sure to check the schedule for any ranger talks or walks you might be interested in. There is also a bookstore and gift shop, but it’s probably best to save all that for after your hikes. When you’re ready, get in line for the shuttle (if it's shuttle season) and get ready for adventure!

Zion Human History Museum
If you pull into the Zion Human History Museum, you can make your way over to the back patio of the Human History Museum to enjoy a highly-recommended ranger talk. Even if you stop by when no talk is being held, the view of the Towers of The Virgin formation is truly amazing and well worth the visit.

Court of the Patriarchs
Your next viewpoint is the Court of the Patriarchs formation. From left to right, visitors can find Abraham Isaac, and Jacob— the patriarchs of Judaism. Take a moment to hop out and get a better view.

Emerald Pools
Your first must-see trail is the Lower Emerald Pools. This 2-mile hike features water drizzling from sandstone cliffs, glittering hanging gardens, and bright emerald pools. This trail is family-friendly and can be accessed across the street from the Zion Lodge.

Angel's Landing
Exit at The Grotto to begin your epic ascent up to Angel’s Landing—a thrilling chain-assisted climb up a narrow precipice! When you reach the top, you’ll earn both bragging rights and an incredible view. If you aren’t feeling up to the climb, simply stop at Scout’s Lookout for an equally stunning vista. If you go all the way up to Angel’s Landing it’s about 5-miles round-trip. Though Angel’s Landing itself is only an extra half-mile each way, crowding and difficulty can add a great deal of time. Please note: Angel's Landing now requires a permit. Permits are not included with entry to the park or purchase of the tour.

Temple of Sinawava Trail
The Temple of Sinawava is the final stop along the canyon, and it’s here that you’ll disembark and undertake The Narrows.

The Narrows
Make your way through narrow shaded canyons, hiking your way up the scenic riverbed as far as you like.

Riverside Walk
If fighting a chilly river upstream isn’t your idea of fun, stop after you finish Riverside Walk—a paved 2-mile trail that follows beside the river.

Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel
In 1929, Zion had one tiny problem standing in the way of connecting it to the Grand Canyon and the rest of the world. Namely, Mt.Carmel. But to let a little thing like a mountain stand in the way? Pshht...never! Today, visitors can appreciate the wondrous feat of engineering that is the Mt. Carmel Tunnel. Drive through this narrow depression-era tunnel and emerge into East Zion!

Canyon Overlook Trail
Canyon Overlook Trail is a short, 1-mile hike overlooking East Zion’s rugged landscape. It’s a great option for those who want to enjoy a high-elevation viewpoint, but would rather not undertake a high-elevation climb. And the views? Absolutely amazing!

Checkerboard Mesa
The Checkerboard Mesa bears stunning criss-cross markings across its face—the result of years of expansion and weathering. At farther viewpoints, the checkerboard pattern becomes more obvious. Pull over on your left before passing the Ranger Station for the best view of this awesome feature.

Kolob Canyons
The entrance to Kolob Canyons is located off of  I-15, about 20 minutes north of La Verkin or 15 minutes south of Cedar City. This less-crowded area of Zion National Park offers about a 15-minute scenic drive with several unique hikes to enjoy. If visitors are driving South from Cedar City and have not yet picked up their park passes, there is a visitor center where you can purchase your pass. Be aware that Kolob Canyons may close during snow events.

Taylor Creek
The first trail you’ll pass will be Taylor Creek Trail, a 5-mile round-trip hike with several unique sights. The Fife and Larson cabins—the first homes built in Kolob Canyons—can be found here, as well as a double arch.

Timber Creek Overlook Trail
This short, easy trail leads to a panoramic overlook of Kolob Canyons, the Pine Valley Mountains, and Red Butte. If you only have time for one short hike while in Kolob Canyons, be sure to do this one!

Kolob Terrace Road
Even if you choose not to do any hikes, the scenic drive will take about 45 minutes each way and can be a great way to take in the sights, even if you never leave the car. Be aware that Kolob Terrace may close during snow events.

Cette fenêtre bien conservée sur le passé a été le lieu de tournage de la célèbre scène de vélo de Butch Cassidy et de Sundance Kid. Springdale
Il ne manque pas de choses à voir et à faire à Springdale, mais ce que vous voudrez certainement faire en premier, c'est de prendre votre équipement ! Si vous voulez des bâtons de randonnée ou des vêtements imperméables, rendez-vous dans l'un des magasins d'aventure pour louer du matériel. Besoin d'une bouchée avant d'attaquer les sentiers? Springdale propose plusieurs délicieux cafés pour le petit-déjeuner.

Centre d'accueil des visiteurs du canyon de Zion
Nous sommes arrivés à Zion Canyon! Ici, à notre premier arrêt dans le parc, prenez un moment pour parler aux rangers, prenez une carte, utilisez les toilettes et remplissez vos bouteilles d'eau. Si vous avez besoin d'un permis de nature sauvage, c'est ici que vous en obtiendrez un. Assurez-vous de vérifier le calendrier des discussions ou des promenades avec les gardes forestiers qui pourraient vous intéresser. Il y a aussi une librairie et une boutique de cadeaux, mais il est probablement préférable de garder tout cela pour après vos randonnées. Lorsque vous êtes prêt, faites la queue pour la navette (si c'est la saison des navettes) et préparez-vous pour l'aventure !

Musée d'histoire humaine de Sion
Si vous vous arrêtez au musée d'histoire humaine de Zion, vous pouvez vous diriger vers le patio arrière du musée d'histoire humaine pour profiter d'une conférence de garde hautement recommandée. Même si vous vous arrêtez quand il n'y a pas de conversation, la vue sur la formation des tours de la Vierge est vraiment incroyable et vaut bien la visite.

Cour des Patriarches
Votre prochain point de vue est la formation de la Cour des Patriarches. De gauche à droite, les visiteurs peuvent trouver Abraham Isaac et Jacob, les patriarches du judaïsme. Prenez un moment pour sauter et avoir une meilleure vue.

Piscines d'émeraude
Votre premier sentier incontournable est les Lower Emerald Pools. Cette randonnée de 3 km comprend de l'eau qui s'écoule des falaises de grès, des jardins suspendus scintillants et des bassins d'émeraude brillants. Ce sentier est familial et accessible en face du Zion Lodge.

L'atterrissage des anges
Sortez à The Grotto pour commencer votre ascension épique jusqu'à Angel's Landing - une ascension palpitante assistée par une chaîne dans un précipice étroit ! Lorsque vous atteignez le sommet, vous gagnerez à la fois le droit de vous vanter et une vue incroyable. Si vous ne vous sentez pas à la hauteur, arrêtez-vous simplement à Scout's Lookout pour une vue tout aussi époustouflante. Si vous montez jusqu'à Angel's Landing, c'est environ 5 miles aller-retour. Bien qu'Angel's Landing lui-même ne soit qu'un demi-mile supplémentaire dans chaque sens, la foule et la difficulté peuvent ajouter beaucoup de temps. Remarque : Angel's Landing nécessite désormais un permis. Les permis ne sont pas inclus avec l'entrée au parc ou l'achat de la visite.

Frayez-vous un chemin à travers des canyons étroits et ombragés, en remontant le lit de la rivière pittoresque aussi loin que vous le souhaitez.

Si combattre une rivière froide en amont n'est pas votre idée de plaisir, arrêtez-vous après avoir terminé Riverside Walk, un sentier pavé de 2 miles qui longe la rivière.

Sion-Mt. Tunnel du Carmel
En 1929, Zion avait un petit problème qui l'empêchait de se connecter au Grand Canyon et au reste du monde. À savoir, Mt.Carmel. Mais laisser une petite chose comme une montagne se dresser sur le chemin ? Pshh...jamais ! Aujourd'hui, les visiteurs peuvent apprécier le merveilleux exploit d'ingénierie qu'est le tunnel du mont Carmel. Traversez cet étroit tunnel de l'époque de la dépression et sortez dans l'est de Sion !

Canyon Overlook Trail
Canyon Overlook Trail est une courte randonnée de 1,6 km surplombant le paysage accidenté d'East Zion. C'est une excellente option pour ceux qui veulent profiter d'un point de vue à haute altitude, mais préfèrent ne pas entreprendre une ascension à haute altitude. Et les vues ? Absolument incroyable!

Mesa en damier
Le Checkerboard Mesa porte de superbes marques entrecroisées sur son visage, résultat d'années d'expansion et d'altération. Aux points de vue plus éloignés, le motif en damier devient plus évident. Arrêtez-vous sur votre gauche avant de passer la station Ranger pour la meilleure vue de cette fonctionnalité impressionnante.

L'entrée de Kolob Canyons est située sur la I-15, à environ 20 minutes au nord de La Verkin ou à 15 minutes au sud de Cedar City. Cette zone moins fréquentée du parc national de Zion offre environ 15 minutes de route panoramique avec plusieurs randonnées uniques à apprécier. Si les visiteurs se rendent au sud de Cedar City et n'ont pas encore récupéré leur laissez-passer pour le parc, il existe un centre d'accueil où vous pouvez acheter votre laissez-passer. Sachez que Kolob Canyons peut fermer pendant les épisodes de neige.

Ruisseau Taylor
Le premier sentier que vous traverserez sera Taylor Creek Trail, une randonnée aller-retour de 8 km avec plusieurs sites uniques. Les cabanes Fife et Larson - les premières maisons construites dans les canyons de Kolob - se trouvent ici, ainsi qu'une double arche.

Sentier donnant sur Timber Creek
Ce sentier court et facile mène à une vue panoramique sur les canyons de Kolob, les montagnes de Pine Valley et Red Butte. Si vous n'avez le temps que pour une courte randonnée dans les canyons de Kolob, assurez-vous de faire celle-ci!

Route de la terrasse de Kolob
Même si vous choisissez de ne pas faire de randonnées, la route panoramique prendra environ 45 minutes dans chaque sens et peut être un excellent moyen d'admirer les sites, même si vous ne quittez jamais la voiture. Sachez que Kolob Terrace peut fermer pendant les événements de neige.
