You simply cannot go to the Fairbanks area and not visit Rod's Alaskan Guide. Everyone from the person we talked to on the phone to the guides were friendly and super helpful.
We had only planned on doing the two-hour snow machine tour after arriving to Fairbanks and before going to the hot springs. We had such an amazing time with the snow machines that we cut our trip to the hot springs short so we could go back to Rod's and do the dog sledding and ice fishing/aurora tour. Every guide we had was super friendly, knowledgeable. We will be coming back!
For those interested in the snow machine tour, Rod's provides very warm boots, gloves, heated helmets, as well as coats. We did not feel cold at all during the two hour excursion in -20 degree weather. The handlebars are heated as well. It does get a little bit colder if you are not the driver. I wish I had brought an action camera to wear, as the scenery was out of this world. The two hours goes by so fast too.
For those interested in the dog sledding - it is a little bit colder and I wish I would have worn a couple more layers. The dogs are super friendly and you can see they are treated very well and love to run. They stop half way so you can get out, stretch your legs, and pet the dogs.
For those interested in the ice fishing and aurora tour-- dress lightly!! It got very warm inside of the heated fishing cabin and we ended up removing layers. You should also come hungry as they feed you reindeer sausages and the fish everyone catches. The guide also goes outside numerous times until the aurora is visible. We had CJ as our guide all night and he was great and you can tell he loves what he does!! It is also advised to bring a DSLR camera with long exposure for the auroras to catch what the naked eye cannot. Luckily we had an extremely friendly Minnesotan with us who had a camera and was nice enough to send us pictures (thank you kind stranger!).
