My family of 4 (20,21,49&50) had an amazing experience doing our first bungee jump.
First off, some safety impressions: we were very nervous before we came, but actually got much more comfortable once we arrived and saw the setup. Being a structural engineer that notices welds, bolts and cables, I was vigilant and impressed. As a former rock climber, I was also impressed with the gear, both quality and care that was taken to maintain it.
Here was happened, we self-drove and parked (although pickups are available), we met the staff and checked in. He weighed us, which affected which bungee cable they used - very cool! We had a little time to explore, so we checked out the observation deck (fun to video eachother) as well as how you get to the jump off point. From the front desk, you walk along a trail to get to the cable car that takes you from the trail and out over the valley that you jump above.
We met our guides and they got us into our safety gear and gave us some of the instructions. We paired off into 2s as the cable car can only hold up to 3 people. we stepped up into the cable car and it took us over the valley floor. No stairs, just a solid cable car that eases out to the jump off point. Once in the car, they put on the leg attachements, forming a total of 3 points of contact to the bungee cable. Each foot with 2 carabiners and a third one the connects to your belt harness. The final instructions are given on the cable car and then you dive off, head first. They put a go-pro on your helmet and take a second video from the cable car - totally worth it, my sons video was hilarious and they a very hi-res.
The jump itself is quick, 3-4 seconds in free fall and then 5-6 bounces until you settle down. They lower a rope and you connect it to you belt so they can pull you up. 5 minutes total. I was worried about too much pressure while hanging upside down, but the adrenaline makes it irrelevant, it’s actually quite peaceful once you get past the initial fear.
Absolutely incredible experience. We spent a total of 90 minutes from registration to departure.
