Descend into the many canyons of the Rio Grande by boat. Float through the spectacular scenery of the international boundary. The water level determines which canyon we float through and whether we float in canoes, kayaks, or rafts. This scenic float is great for all ages. Come explore the Chihuahuan Desert and learn about the geology, plants, and history. This is a full day trip, you will be responsible for bringing your lunch, and we have the coolers to pack your lunch in.

À quoi s'attendre

Terlingua

The tour starts in Terlingua, TX. As we ride in vans to the river learn about the cultural history, geology, flora and fauna of the Chihuahuan Desert. Once at the river we will get outfitted in PFD's (personal floatation devices) and pack cameras and other valuables into dry bags. We will do a safety briefing and paddling instruction talk. After several hours of floating we will stop on the side of the river for a picnic and swim. You are responsible to pack a lunch and water bottle, we will have water to refill your bottles and coolers for your food. Alcoholic beverages are allowed in cans. We will continue our float down the international boundary.We typically return to Terlingua around 4:30 p.m.

Terlingua

La visite commence à Terlingua, TX. Pendant que nous montons dans des camionnettes jusqu'à la rivière, découvrez l'histoire culturelle, la géologie, la flore et la faune du désert de Chihuahuan. Une fois à la rivière, nous nous équiperons de VFI (dispositifs de flottaison personnels) et emballerons les caméras et autres objets de valeur dans des sacs étanches. Nous ferons un briefing sur la sécurité et une conférence sur les instructions de pagayage. Après plusieurs heures de flottaison nous nous arrêterons au bord de la rivière pour un pique-nique et une baignade. Vous êtes responsable d'emballer un lunch et une bouteille d'eau, nous aurons de l'eau pour remplir vos bouteilles et des glacières pour votre nourriture. Les boissons alcoolisées sont autorisées en canette. Nous continuerons notre navigation le long de la frontière internationale. Nous retournons généralement à Terlingua vers 16h30.

Awesome kayaking/boat excursion on the Rio Grande, including the Hot Springs. Our guide Erika was amazing - funny, knowledgeable, great story teller, and very experienced. It was so much fun! And the scenery was incredible. We are fairly new to hiking and backpacking, and even though that wasn’t part of this trip, Erika shared a lot of information and tips to help us with a major trip we have planned in the immediate future. They have a lot of different trip offerings but will also work with you on customized itineraries too. Simply the best!

We very much enjoyed our trip with Erica and Jimmy. We highly recommend booking with them for your visit to Big Bend. This is why our trip with them was so great: (1) They were incredibly knowledgable about the ecology and history of the park. We learned so much from them. As locals to Teralingua, they also shared some interesting stories and perspectives. (2) The trip along the Rio Grande was spectacular. We had a great time exploring the canyon in 3 different ways: floating, hiking, and soaking in the hot springs! (3) They gave us lots of personal attention. You can tell they really wanted to make the trip special. They even helped us plan the must-sees for the rest of our trip in Big Bend! We hope to book with Erica and Jimmy again on our next visit to the park.

We booked this trip at the last minute, and the owner, Erica, was so accommodating in setting up a half day river trip for us. She picked us up at our hotel, and drove us to the put in point on the Rio Grande River in Big Bend Ranch State Park. She rowed us down the incredibly beautiful river all morning in a comfortable raft. She was mindful of safety and comfort, and provided drinks and snacks. Her knowledge of the surrounding terrain, plants, and animals was complete. The trip itself was so peaceful and relaxing. Her stories of the area, and her ability to make us feel at home and so welcome on this river trip made this a stand-out activity in the Big Bend area. Thank you so much, Erica, and the rest of your company for a wonderful morning on the river!
