Never had taken train from Williams, Az., to Grand Canyon - did so in an all day trip. The train is very slow - 2 hr. ride to the Canyon, 2 hr. ride back to Williams at about 25-30 mph for the 64 mile each way travel. Tour bus waiting at the train to take us to the best viewing points of the South Rim of the Canyon. After viewings, bus took us to a buffet lunch at the lodge, then took us back to the train for the return trip. It is a fantastic way to have a good day's trip - especially if age or health issues are a factor. My husband cannot walk far - so this was the best way to see things. Guide (Kathy with a "K") on the train was very personable with everyone, there were musicians, and there was a train robbery on the return trip. Be prepared to tip everyone & buy photos of yourself if you desire.
