This was one of my life's best experiences Having watch the BBC rail journeys with Michael Portillo earlier this year we decided to relive his experience and we are sooo pleased we did. The morning started with a cowboy show ( very tongue in cheek) then we were called to board this wonderful train. Admittedly we paid for the best service carriage etc but it was worth every dollar. It was relatively quiet on our 10.30 train so we were able to move about from seat to seat and carriage to carraige. There are 2 trains most days depending on numbers we booked the luxury dome carriage which allowed us to use the carriage at the back which gave you access to the observation platform at the back of the train. This was an experience in itself. The dome carriage has a morning buffet of fresh orange juice coffee etc and pastries yoghurt and fruits. There was also a full bar service, we had our own host who served us with everything. The cocktails he made were excellent and reasonably priced . Nothing was too much trouble for him. The view from the dome was definitely worth paying for. The 2 hours 15 minutes journey was so relaxing we had entertainment from a guitarist and the Marshall from the cowboy show who came and spoke
to everyone. We also had the official photo taken which we purchased on the return journey. On arrival our host gave us clear instructions what was going to happen next , bus/ coach trips were available all prepaid for, which took us to the Grand Canyon south rim. After the bus tour we had 2 hours to wander around the Grand Canyon village. Then at 4.15 we were called to rebroad the train. Our host from the morning (Brian) was there to greet us with more cocktails and another buffet of cheeses, cakes and wonderful chocolates. We had more entertainment on the way back plus the Cowboys !!! We had been warned they would board the train to rob us!!!!! Dollar bills are essential for this we tucked them in our glasses, shoes and wrist watches they found them of course, all good fun!!! After that we had a champagne toast which was a lovely way to end a truly memorable day . Highly recommend
