We were staying in Flagstaff and decided to take the train to the Grand Canyon. it had been years since we had visited the "Big Ditch" and wanted to view it again without driving. We enjoyed the gift shop before boarding the train. I splurged for the Dome tickets so we would have great views.
The train was fun, but it was a lot slower than I expected, rarely going above 40 mph. They provided free coffee and juices, pastries, and fruit on the way up. A western guitarist/singer provided entertainment for a few songs. The trip took a little over 2 hours from Williams Arizona, about 30 miles West of Flagstaff.
We spent a little over 3 hours at the canyon and ate a nice lunch at El Tovar. The trip back had a fiddler/comedianr and a train robbery. Everyone had to be "tipped.." The musicians worked a lot harder than the bank robbers, who just showed up to collect money.
All in all, it was a fun trip, although somewhat expensive.
