Wow! It will be difficult to capture in words the full day tour with Keaton as our guide. Firstly, we were picked up at our bed and breakfast in Williams promptly. Our guide immediately introduced himself and welcomed us and provided assistance as needed into the van. The van was clean and comfortable. Keaton was pleasant, enthusiastic, and professional with a knowledgeable wealth of information not only about the environment of the Grand Canyon area but also the history of the Native Americans who lived near the Grand Canyon. He provided organized teachings about the biology of plants and animals in the area and how the Native Americans used them for food and survival. Keaton provided us with geology information about the canyon strata after providing seating for us in front of an area of the canyon with the rock layers exposed for us to see as he discussed them. He provided color handouts and passed samples of the different rocks for us to hold as he discussed them. His voice was perfect for all of us to hear while driving to our different destinations and his historical storytelling was excellent. A complete history of the “white man” discovery of the canyon was provided and how the canyon became a tourist destination. The story of Powell’s trip down the Colorado was very exciting. We received several other color handouts about the different topics discussed during the day. Drinks and snacks were provided frequently and we had lunch at the Navajo reservation. You just need to experience the tour as there is way too much to include in this review! It is an organized, information filled, fun filled adventure for a small group who doesn’t want the environment of a tour bus.
