I wish I could email Grand Canyon West directly! Thank goodness the Canyon was stunning, but I wouldn't use this company again! Apologies, this is going to be a rant!
We pre-booked our trip and were attracted by the 'luxury travel, TV monitors, restroom on coach, reclining seats' etc. Given the amount of time we expected to be on the coach and the early start, these were important factors for us.
However, at the meeting point, the coach was over booked, and a small minibus was provided. Despite us having pre-booked, passengers who had only booked the night before and were paying on the day, were given priority on the better-quality coach - this included a party of 6 and we were only a party of 3, so there would have been space for us (and the other couple on the minibus with us who were in the same position).
We approached the coach driver about this however she was rude and aggressive.
The minibus did not have the same facilities as the coach and had a leaky roof hatch. It had been a problem for some time based on the water stains on the roof fabric. As a result, we lost c 60 mins of the tour as we had to return to the depot for a replacement minibus.
The tour advertised a 'light lunch in the Skyview Restaurant' - an additional $21. However, when we had a rest stop, the driver advised us to buy our lunch there and take it with us! When we arrived at the 'restaurant', it was a street food shack with poor quality food and limited choice.
The Canyon itself was spectacular. The queuing for buses was a pain and used a lot of the minimal amount of time you got at the site. The Skywalk, which was the primary reason for the trip, was much smaller than expected from the marketing pictures and you were not allowed to take your phones or cameras with you and had to purchase photos from the 'official' photographer.
The sight of the Canyon was well worth the trip and compensated for the poor coach facilities, journey and poor food service.
