All in all my daughter and I were very disappointed with our Grand Canyon experience. I booked my tour package several months in advance, for my daughter and I to be taken to the West rim of the Grand Canyon in May. At the time of the booking I chatted online with the owner Nan of Christianson/Sweet Tours and was assured that a restroom would be available for my use (due to my disability/medical condition) while riding ON the bus. I was also told that the bus would be making several stops along the way for the passengers to get out and stretch our legs. Being that I was speaking directly with the owner, I felt comfortable with the information provided to me. So I went ahead and booked the tour.
This week when my daughter and I were picked up from our hotel for the tour, I was surprised to find out that they expected us to ride in a small shuttle bus with NO bathroom on it. I spoke with the Driver, explained my medical condition and what the Owner had assured me back in March, and was able to get my daughter and I transferred off the small shuttle bus to one of the larger tour buses. BUT once the driver Dirk (of the larger tour bus) started on the route he informed everyone that he did not want us using the restroom there on his bus. He said this over the speaker 4 different times for emphasis "DO NOT USE THE BATHROOM on this bus". I could not believe what I was hearing, since he had no right to restrict our use of the restroom, especially for individuals with disabilities/medical conditions such as myself (and since the Owner had assured me that I WOULD have access). The driver only stopped one time during our 3 hour ride, for us to get out and use the restroom and stretch. I was in such pain by the time I arrived at the Grand Canyon I could not enjoy my visit there.
Also, the small amount of time we were allotted to visit both Eagle Point and Guano Point was not long enough to see/do everything. The only positive thing about that day was experiencing the breathtaking view of the Grand Canyon, and the decent lunch the Company provided. The ride back to our Hotel was just as miserable, once again being reminded NOT to use the restroom on the bus, and the driver "forgetting" to stop where he originally said he would for us to all get out. Finally after several people spoke up about needing to stop the Driver did so, at a local gas station outside of Las Vegas. Nearing town, the driver started "suggesting" the amount of the tip each customer should pay him. Many of us looked at each other in surprise, due to the Driver's boldness. A tip should be something earned, not expected. I do not know if our experience would have been better with a different driver, but since he is in the public eye representing the Company my review stands. I will not book any tours with this Company again, or recommend them to my friends/family.
